What does an ordinary workday look like for you?

I spend the mornings catching up on emails and making sure all active marketing projects are proceeding smoothly.

Then I tend to assign a specific task to myself for the afternoon.

Some days I write, some I record for my podcast, and some days I zoom out to get a broader sense of how we could be doing better, reviewing our analytics or brainstorming tweaks to our strategy.

What are some of your favorite marketing tools or resources?

I use BuzzSumo quite a bit; it’s great for quickly seeing what content has earned a ton of engagement and being able to filter out big publishers, look at B2B publishers specifically, etc. That information is helpful to me because when you see what topics, content formats, and methodologies are succeeding, you can consider how to apply them and improve them in your own industry.

I also can’t live without a keyword research plugin like Keywords Everywhere or Keyword Surfer.

What is the best piece of marketing advice you’ve ever received?

Marketing is about emotion.

Nearly everything we do at Fractl goes back to the questions: Why would people care about this? What emotions are in this content, and why are they important?

Even how-to content is about helping people navigate their frustrations. When you tap into which emotions you’re dealing with, you can better frame your content to be honest and human.
