Alex Birkett is a Sr. Growth Marketing Manager at HubSpot and co-founder at Omniscient Digital.
Previously, he worked on growth at CXL and LawnStarter. He’s obsessed with data and experimentation and how we can leverage data to make better marketing and product decisions.
He lives in Austin, Texas, but spends roughly half the year living out of a suitcase and traveling.

What does an ordinary workday look like for you?
I work in short, very intense bursts of deep focus, which results in almost all of my productive work that is viewable by the world (articles, R scripts, SQL queries, experiments run, etc.).
And then I spend the rest of my days in boring meetings or reading books.
It’s like the Barbell Strategy but for work and energy expenditure. Coffee consumption, however, is a constant, whether I’m in the Maker or the Manager portion of this schedule.
What are some of your favorite marketing tools or resources?
Tools: Conductrics, Convert, Clearscope, Ahrefs, Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, R, and Python. Resources: Reforge, CXL, The Digital Analytics Power Hour (podcast), Measure Slack, and Data Camp (courses).
Books: The Innovator’s Hypothesis, Trustworthy Online Experiments, Statistical Methods in Online A/B Testing, and Antifragile.
What is the best piece of marketing advice you’ve ever received?
When I first started at CXL, Peep said something along the lines of ‘every piece of content we publish should be the best thing ever written on that topic.’
It doesn’t matter how literal that is, the simple notion of giving a shit about your work and striving towards excellence has been a guiding principle for me ever since.
